[12/16/2015 Wednesday]
After a very good breakfast, the second attempt to drive to Port Antonio starts today. At 10 o’clock it goes off, we head first a lighthouse to make here our first geocache in Jamaica. On the island there are manageable just under 40 caches, certainly almost all laid by tourists.
The drive is very curvy, the highway leads through the middle of the villages, there are no sidewalks and it is common here to wait on the side of the road until a so-called route cab comes, this can be recognized by its red license plate, drives very fast and stops everywhere so that people get in and out.
The lighthouse and the area are very beautiful, two anglers have made themselves comfortable here. Harry and I make a small picnic, but the cache is unfortunately not to be found.
We continue to the famous white sandy beaches in the south of Port Antonio, we finally want to see the beach! The more the goal comes closer the worse the weather develops, which is often very fast here, and when we reach the first bays it rains in torrents. We try to visit the beach “The Blue Lagoon”, but we don’t want to pay the 10 USD entrance fee in this crappy weather. So we drive into town and you really can’t speak of touristy overcrowded, in fact we are the only foreigners here! We stand out and immediately get into conversation with a Jamaican, who wants to know what we are doing here. The people are already very curious, but nice! A typical fast food in Jamaica is “Patty” – these are filled dumplings with ground beef, chicken, shrimp or vegetarian, they cost the equivalent of 1.20 € and taste very tasty, partly a bit too spicy for my taste!
Around 4 p.m. we leave Port Antonio, since one should be near the accommodation before nightfall. At a beach on the way we enjoy the setting sun and spend some more time on our terrace and let the evening fade away.
