Great Bay

[12/22/2015 Tuesday]

7:30 a.m. the neighbor’s loudspeakers turn on with very loud reggae music, disturbance of the peace probably doesn’t exist in Jamaica.

Today we finally want to have a normal beach day.

Jeremy, the cook, had asked if we could have breakfast at 9am today because several new guests are arriving. This is no problem, but thereby we miss the farewell of Taejoon and Ji Yeon, (GreetingsJ). Until breakfast I finally wash all clothes through, seven parts we let wash on site.

After breakfast, today we tested English Breakfast, we start to the recommended beach “Great Bay”. Since we can not estimate how many tourists are on site, only the most necessary is packed.

Next to our wild parking lot some goats greet us, no trace of people, there is really no one at the stand, possibly we are too early. The waves of the ocean are quite high and the current is much stronger than in the Baltic Sea. The water is very salty, but it is fun to cool down. Just a few meters from us pelicans rush into the water to take out fish.

We hold it out just under two hours in the sun and then visit “Jacks, a bar that was already recommended to us by several people on the island. It is the first bar that really sells real cocktails, otherwise you get drinks in a bottle or rum in a plastic cup at the usual bars that are every 10 meters on the roadside. The beach adjacent to the Jacks is very nice, there are some tourists here. We drink a coffee directly at the water and are addressed by a somewhat finished-looking man whether we want to have Ganja (Mariuhanna). This is about the fifth time that Jamaicans offer us drugs, even at the tourist waterfalls they do not stop, but we decline with thanks.

In the accommodation there is currently no water and electricity, so unfortunately we can not take a shower. At night it is extremely stormy and the electricity fails again, so also the fan that should run through the night.

Tomorrow we travel on to our last accommodation before the cruise. Negril is one of the main tourist centers next to Montego Bay, hopefully this will not be too much of a culture shock.
