Jamaica- Montego Bay

[10.01.2016 Sunday]

15 days ago Harry and I started in the evening in Mobay the cruise through the Caribbean on the AIDA, today we leave it again after many interesting undertakings and cities. We now spend only 2.5 days in Mobay and then get on the plane.

Since we have to be checked out of the room by 9 o’clock and have not yet packed, we get up at 6:30 and pack. In the process, we notice that Harry’s good camera is gone! The last time we had it in use was on our bike ride yesterday. We go for breakfast and are annoyed because we did not make a copy of the pictures.

We still ask at the reception and actually the Panasonic was found on the ship and delivered here – lucky!

Since we as individual travelers do not go directly to the airport today, but stay for another 3 days, we have to go to the health check at 9 am. The necessary questionnaire was already filled out by us and submitted with the passports, the Jamaican dismisses us after 10 minutes, but still keeps the passport until all other individual guests are through.

We quickly gamble away our last AIDA-Coins, get off the board at 9:45 with all our luggage, have to go to the counter again to pick up our passport and are already outside.

Bruce, our cab driver, comes to us beaming with joy, although we have agreed 10 o’clock, he has been waiting since 8 o’clock because he has seen the ship arrive. He drives us to the accommodation which is very close to the airport and so we are already 10:30 clock in the new place, our room is already ready for occupancy.

It is large with air conditioning and TV and balcony. We walk from 14 o’clock through Mobay and buy water, Coke and ice in the supermarket. You are not allowed to buy ice cream in Jamaica, it is totally overpriced, we pay 10 USD for 450ml! We eat the ice cream quickly in the room and then look for the beach. We find a very small public beach where many locals go swimming, directly at the airport. Here we also see for the first time the “Toy Boys”, known for Jamaica, who try to get single women. They also offer us ganja, coke and ectasy, but we turn down the offer 😉

The water is very shallow and the planes are very close as the runway is only a few meters away. Harry goes swimming, I buy again Pepperd Shrimps, which are sold as well as lobster as a snack.

In the evening we don’t go out to eat but use the internet, eat pringles and cookies and go to bed early. Tomorrow Bruce picks us up and takes us rafting, but that is more relaxing than you think.
