Fanso Beach

[12/14/2015 Monday]

After a very exhausting night the sun rises at 6 o’clock and I use our very well working mosquito spray and go out to take pictures of the huge area. It is already at least 25 degrees.

Punctually at 8:30 we reach the main house, outside breakfast is brought to us: there are scrambled eggs, pancake with maple syrup, toast with jam and a fruit plate with papaya, banana, melon and pineapple.

The host Brigitta comes by and we tell her about our restless night. She offers us a guesthouse a bit elevated above ours, this one is with cement and hopefully not so many critters come through. So after a very tasty breakfast we drive back to the cottage and move. The house makes a good impression, with roof terrace and terrace area.

We decide to make a beach day today, according to our hostess, after a long drought now a lot of rain has fallen in a short time and nature is recovering. However, the beaches in the immediate vicinity are currently full of algae and not so usable.

We still go on our own and find a beach even with a bar that is open – at 10 o’clock in the morning!

The beach shows a huge problem of Jamaica, there is apparently no real environmental protection, especially plastic waste is everywhere, in the supermarket you get per purchase countless plastic bags and even the rum at the bar always comes in plastic cups. Only the tourist beaches that charge admission and are located in the main holiday centers are well-kept. At least that’s how it seems.

We have a nice chat with the bartender, he explains to us which is the best rum on the island and we then lie down in the sun and recover from the night with Rum Cola. I write in a small bamboo beach cottage my travel reports on my tablet, Harry has made friends with the beach dogJ

At 5 p.m. we ordered dinner from Brigitta, before that we quickly use the outdoor shower to cool down at our accommodation.

A family of three from Minnesota arrived today and they join us for dinner: Chicken pieces with Jamaican typical rice with kidney beans and hardly any sauce.

The family is very nice, the second time on the island and their son Jack is very bright at 12 years old and is eager to study in Germany later!

To get ahead of the critters, we sit down in the evening on the beautiful terrace in front of our new accommodation, listen to music and drink another mixed drink with the best view of the water! Hopefully, the night will be a little more restful, the closed mosquito net suggests.
