Still Alive!

[12/17/2015 Thursday]

The night was again quite difficult, because the fan in the room is very loud, but keeps the mosquitoes away and the jungle sounds are unusual for city dwellers. Today we change the accommodation and go to the Blue Mountains, the largest mountain range in Jamaica. I have the accommodation from the current Lonely Planet guidebook, the website was very promising and I really wanted to stay here, we stay two days.

After breakfast we start 9:40 am after all things are stowed in the car. We do not drive over the big highway but over an extremely curvy side road to the south, with quite a few meters of altitude. The road that leads into the Blue Mountains does not deserve the name road, it is extremely narrow, there are no side barriers and the road quality is poor. We ask several inhabitants whether we are on the right way, signs on the roadside point out that one should honk before each curve, so that oncoming vehicles become attentive. We reach our hotel at 900 meters altitude at 13:20.

The Mount Edge Guesthouse seems to be a popular backpacker destination, there is a nice cafe and typical backpackers go in and out here. Our booked room is no longer available and we get the cottage “Roost”. This is absolutely awesome: “sticking” in the hillside with a narrow terrace, the house reminds of a tree house, you can look down through the floor and see how deep it goes down. The space in our room is so tight that we decide to leave the suitcases in the car. The view of the very green Blue Mountains is great.

Since I have extra dragged my mosquito net, we hang this over the bed, the bathroom is so small that the shower is virtually above the toilet, welcome to the adventure holidayJ

In the attached cafe with excellent view we take the famous Blue Mountain cafe and a rum ice cream cake – but since I’m not a friend of rum in sweets, this is not my cup of tea.

After 5 days there is finally WLAN here and so the first Jamaica reports come into my block, pictures are compressed and saved and technical devices are charged.

For dinner there is fish with noodles for me and chicken with rice and beans for Harry, it tastes very good. Here in the mountains it is much cooler in the evening felt only 12 degrees, so we need long clothes and have a wool blanket in the room.

During the night we are hit by such a strong thunderstorm with heavy rain that we are worried that our accommodation will stop! The tree house has withstood the rain then but yetJ
